About Cal
Cal (Michael Callaghan) started playing the guitar and singing in the early 1990s as a hobby and something to do whilst recovering from an industrial accident. After the first year or so his interest had grown and so he decided to further develop his musical talents by attending Perth College.
He was a student there for three years where he attained an HND in "Rock Music Performance", won the Outstanding Adult Learner Award in 1993 and won the Sound Control Music Trophy 1993 - 1994. Cal started out on his own as a solo performer singing cover songs which incorporated every kind of musical style from the 50s to the chart hits of the day and his diary of bookings soon grew, very quickly creating a stir in all kinds of venue throughout Scotland from pubs and clubs to town halls and small concert halls. Cal was inspired to write his own songs and release then on his own record label (Cal Music), therefore enabling him to write, record and promote his own songs while keeping all copyright control of his works. Under his own label he has released 3 albums to date, Vintage years (1998), Scotland a part of me (2000 and Calling you.
In November 2007 Cal won the Festival4Stars National Songwriting competition with the song “You and I” collecting the highest number of online votes for his entry and stealing the show on the night with his outstanding performance. Cal has toured extensively in countries such as Germany, Norway, Canada and America.
